ADHD Diagnosis and Treatment

What is ADHD?

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulse control, and activity levels. It can present in three main types: inattentive, hyperactive-impulsive, and combined. The inattentive type is often characterized by difficulties sustaining focus, forgetfulness, and disorganization. The hyperactive-impulsive type primarily involves restlessness, fidgeting, and acting without thinking. The combined type features elements of both, with individuals struggling to manage attention and impulsivity simultaneously.

In adults, ADHD can manifest differently than in children. Symptoms such as distractibility, difficulty completing tasks, impulsive decision making, and internal restlessness may interfere with work, relationships, and daily functioning. While adult ADHD may appear to develop later in life, research indicates that it almost always begins in childhood but may go undiagnosed if symptoms were less disruptive or masked by coping strategies. Recognizing and addressing adult ADHD can lead to significant improvements in focus, organization, and emotional regulation.

Our approach to treatment of ADHD

At Tranquility Psychiatry, ADHD care is grounded in a collaborative, patient-centered approach. Deficits in attention and concentration can be complicated by presence of depression, anxiety, or other mental health disorders.
